主要從事海洋漁業資源調查與生態研究，已開展工作包括：1）研究了近60年來黃海漁業資源的長期變化，大海洋生態系之父Kenneth Sherman博士認為該研究對于更好地理解人類與環境驅動下的大海洋生態系漁業組成變化做出了重要貢獻，發展了生態系統水平上的漁業恢復與可持續管理策略，被收入國際環境問題科學委員會出版的專著《海洋可持續性：世界大海洋生態系評估和管理》，同時被聯合國教科文組織政府間海洋委員會（IOC-UNESCO）采用。2）分析了渤海主要無脊椎動物群落結構與營養級的長期變動，發現口蝦蛄和槍烏賊是最穩定的優勢種，且口蝦蛄的優勢度逐漸提升。3）初步闡明了黃渤海甲殼類與頭足類的種類組成、數量分布與物種多樣性。4）分析了萊州灣中國對蝦、三疣梭子蟹及其餌料與敵害生物的數量分布及其動態。研究結果為黃渤海漁業資源的可持續利用以及三疣梭子蟹等重點種類的增殖放流提供了科學依據。此外，作為科研骨干參與的中韓暫定措施水域漁業資源調查及中韓海洋生物資源專家組會談對維護我國的漁業權益做出了貢獻。
先后主持國家重點研發計劃項目子課題、公益性（農業）行業科研專項課題、農業農村部課題、橫向課題等10余項；撰寫專著5部，其中主編1部、副主編1部；發表論文50余篇，其中以第一作者在Deep-Sea Research Part II、Acta Oceanologica Sinica、Marine Life Science & Technology、Journal of Ocean University of China、水產學報等期刊發表論文近20篇。2019年曾赴美國華盛頓大學水產與漁業科學學院進行訪問交流。
